METALLICA: Review, Photos From Second ROLLING STONES Concert Posted Online
November 16, 2005METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following "review" of the band's performance last night (Nov. 15) as the support act for THE ROLLING STONES at SBC Park in San Francisco, California:
"'Welcome to the beginning and the end of the 2005 METALLICA World Tour...' Nothing like a little Ulrich humor to end another great evening here in San Francisco. First and foremost, the crowd was like night and day compared to the Sunday night show and you could definitely tell there were many more METALLICA fans in attendance which seemed to have fueled a completely different setlist.
"Opening again with 'Orion', the first surprise came when the band tore into 'Creeping Death' with the crowd, as always, screaming 'DIE' as loud as they possibly could. 'Wherever I May Roam' followed which got the crowd singing again.
"Another quick band intro came up next before a familiar kick drum got the fists pumping in the air. Rob gave us a short little bass doodle before the band gave us an energetic performance of 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'. Kirk followed with a short guitar solo as an acoustic guitar stand was set up on stage for yet another different song. James gave a soulful performance of 'The Unforgiven' which, again, had many in the crowd singing loudly.
"'Gimme an M... Gimme an E... Gimme a T...' You guessed it... 'Fuel' followed at the same frantic pace that it's been performed at for the past couple years. So, up to this point, every single song had been different from Sunday night, barring 'Orion'. We than moved into familiar territory with great renditions of 'Sad But True', 'Nothing Else Matters', 'Master of Puppets', 'One', and, of course, 'Enter Sandman'. 'Sandman' once again got the crowd on their feet, air guitars ripping, fists and horns in the air, and voices trailing off into the night sky.
"As I said on Sunday, it was great to see the band back on stage once again to show everybody what they've got. They most definitely left an impression, one way or another, on the STONES crowd and, most importantly, gave the rabid fans that traveled from places such as Norway, Calgary, and Chicago that fix that we've all been craving.
"...now, let's get some new tunes coming our way please."
